What FMCSA Is Saying

"It is critical that motor carriers, brokers, and other registered entities log in to the FMCSA Portal now to ensure their Portal accounts are up to date. Failure to take these steps may result in existing registrants being unable to claim their USDOT Number in MOTUS once the system goes live."

— FMCSA, in a direct communication to industry partners

FMCSA has not announced a launch date. That means you won't get advance warning. Act now or risk being stuck calling FMCSA trying to prove you own your own USDOT number.

Three Things You Need to Do

FMCSA is asking every carrier, broker, and registered entity to complete these now.

1

Log into Your FMCSA Portal Account

Go to portal.fmcsa.dot.gov and confirm you can access your account. If you're locked out, fix that now.

2

Verify Your Company Official

Check who FMCSA lists as your Company Official. Often it's someone who left the company or an old compliance service. These permissions carry over into MOTUS.

3

Submit Your MCS-150 Biennial Update

Make sure your company info — address, contact details, vehicle count, operation type — is current. Outdated data migrates into MOTUS with you.

Common Questions

What is MOTUS?

MOTUS is FMCSA's new registration system replacing the current FMCSA Portal. It will handle USDOT registration, operating authority, biennial updates, and other registration tasks. Read the full details on our blog.

When does MOTUS launch?

FMCSA has not announced a specific launch date. They've indicated it will happen in 2026, but the exact date is unknown — which is why they're urging carriers to prepare now.

What happens if I don't update my portal account?

According to FMCSA, you may be unable to claim your USDOT number in MOTUS when it goes live. That means you could lose the ability to manage your own registration until you resolve it with FMCSA directly.

How much does a MOTUS Readiness Check cost?

Contact us for details. We'll review your situation and let you know what's involved. Many issues are quick fixes — some carriers just need a Company Official update or a portal login reset.

I can't log into my FMCSA Portal. Can you help?

Yes — this is one of the most common problems we solve. Whether it's a Login.gov issue, a lost USDOT PIN, or a locked account, we've seen it before and can walk you through it. See our step-by-step guide or just call us.
